Introduction
If you’ve been prescribed Wegovy® in New Zealand, you’ll be using a once-weekly FlexTouch® pen. For many Kiwis, injecting themselves for the first time can feel daunting — but the good news is the Wegovy pen has been designed to be simple, safe, and discreet.

This guide walks you through how to give Wegovy correctly, where to inject it, and how to look after your pens.
Step 1: Prime Your Pen (First Use Only)
Each new pen must be primed once before its first use.
Turn the dose selector until the flow check symbol appears.
Hold the pen with the needle pointing upwards.
Press the dose button until the counter goes back to zero — you should see a small drop of medicine at the needle tip.
If no drop appears, repeat the flow check with a new needle. If still no drop, return the pen to your pharmacist.
Step 2: Choose Your Injection Site
You can inject Wegovy into:
Thighs
Stomach (at least 5 cm away from the belly button)
Upper arms
👉 Avoid skin that is tender, bruised, red, scarred, or has stretch marks. Rotate sites each week to prevent irritation.
Step 3: Attach the Needle
Always use a new NovoFine® Plus needle for every injection.
Push the needle onto the pen and twist until tight.
Remove the outer and inner caps (keep the outer cap to remove the needle after injecting).
Step 4: Inject Your Dose
Set the dose on the pen to match your prescription.
Place the pen against the injection site with the window visible.
Insert the needle and press the button until the counter shows zero.
Keep holding and slowly count to six seconds.
Lift the pen from your skin and carefully remove the needle using the outer cap. Dispose of it in a sharps container.
Step 5: Storing Wegovy in NZ Conditions
Keep pens in the fridge (2–8 °C), in their original box.
Do not freeze.
If needed, pens can be kept at room temperature (≤30 °C) for up to 6 weeks — useful when travelling.
Avoid hot cars or leaving pens in the sun, especially during NZ summers.
