What is DoxyPEP?

DoxyPEP involves taking a single dose of doxycycline within 72 hours after condomless sex to help prevent bacterial STIs such as chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhoea. It’s currently used as an STI prevention tool, particularly for men who have sex with men and transgender women at higher risk of exposure.

How to take DoxyPEP

  • Take two 100mg tablets of doxycycline within 72 hours after condomless sex

  • Do not take more than once per 72 hours

Important considerations

  • DoxyPEP reduces the risk of syphillis and chlamydia, not HIV

  • Can cause sun sensitivity or nausea

  • Not a substitute for regular STI testing or condom use

Who DoxyPEP is for

  • Men who have sex with men

  • Transgender women

  • People with recent STIs or ongoing high-risk exposures
