Frequently asked questions
How do Pocket Lab’s lab tests work?
Pocket Lab offers online lab test requests without the need for a video consult. Simply choose a test bundle, complete a short form, and our doctors will review it. If approved, we’ll send an electronic lab form to your nearest community testing centre. We are not a laboratory testing or pathology service.
Do I need an appointment to get a lab test with Pocket Lab?
No appointment is needed. You simply fill out a quick form online. If your request is approved by one of our doctors, you’ll receive a lab form electronically which you can take to your local testing centre.
How will I get my results?
Your results will be reviewed by a Pocket Lab doctor. We’ll email you a summary, typically within 3 working days of the tests being performed, and let you know if any follow-up is needed. If anything urgent is found, a doctor will get in touch directly.
Do I have to pay for my lab test?
Most lab tests are free if you are a New Zealand citizen or eligible for publicly funded healthcare. If you are not eligible, the testing centre may charge you directly. These costs are separate from Pocket Lab’s fee. Travellers may be able to claim costs through insurance. For any charges, we recommend contacting the lab directly before your test.
Do my results go to my regular doctor?
When you request a test, you can choose to have your results shared with your regular doctor if you give consent. Our Pocket Lab doctors will review your results and provide advice, especially if anything abnormal is found. In some cases, they may recommend follow-up with your usual GP.
